Welcome to the Website for the Synaptic Basis of Disease FENS Satellite Symposium
According to the 2006 consensus document of the European Brain Council, brain disorders affect 1 out of 4 Europeans, creating a social and financial burden of approximately 400 billion Euros per year. Anxiety and mood disorders are the most prevalent, followed by addiction and dementia. The last years have brought rapid progress in understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms of such disorders and a picture is emerging that these disorders are associated with alterations in synaptic function and synaptic plasticity.
We are therefore organizing a meeting that will bring together experts studying synapses and disease at molecular, cellular and systems levels to discuss the current exciting results and new directions in understanding the synaptic basis of disease.
Sessions will focus on molecular mechanisms, cellular and circuit function, and specific diseases.
We will have poster sessions and short oral presentations chosen from the abstracts as well as travel grants for students and postdocs.
